[Help] My 96 Buick Le Saber is acting up, randomly locking the steering wheel. What do?

Since yesterday my Buick Le Saber has been...acting up. Yesterday while on the job for my work, I get on the road and start to drive. After about a half mile, three red lights on my dashboard - one near the temp gauge, one near the gauge below it with what looks like a water can, and the gauge above the gas gauge - light up, and it feels like my car is slowing down, nothing seems to respond, and my wheel locks up and has a hard time being turned. I pull over, turn it off, wait a amoment, then turn it back on and it's like nothing happened.Cut to today. I leave like yesterday, and soon after my car just...dies. The clock turns off, the gas pedal does nothing, nada. And I'm in the middle of the road (though there is no one behind me). I turn the car off and wait a little before turning it back on, again it turns on like nothing happened. Then about a half hour or so later, I'm driving and the three red lights and locking wheel happens again, and again it's fixed by turning it off and on.Obviously something is happening. I'm not sure what it is. I live in California so it gets hot in the summer, and last week while I was vacationing my car was in the economy lot at the Sacramento Air Port so maybe that's a factor. Is my car overheating? it is on the verge of dying? Bad connection on the electrical? I'm not a car person, so any help is appreciated.EDIT: My workmate tells me that this sounds like a faulty alternator. Does this sound about right? via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2u62WlE
