Car cornering question (counter steer)

The other day i had my gt86 out for a spin after the midnight. It's been about a week since i got it and i really did not have a chance to cruise around with her. Anyways I was at a stoplight and there was super wide 90 degree left turn. I looked around, streets were empty. I decided i was going to take the turn with full throttle. So i started moving slowly in first gear and as the turn approached i floored it and gave wheel a steady turn. about half way through the turn revs got into that sweet power range. rear tires started to squeal and I felt rear end of the car sliding out. Naturally I started to release the wheel and maybe applied a little bit of counter steer. The VSC light started to blink and rear tires gained traction. I did not hear VSC interfering with car control at all. if im not mistaken it will engage brakes on itself to stabilize the car. So after i took the turn i stopped to reflect on the moment. I remember feeling rear end of car skidding and going out. Then sharply going back into the place and I had this feeling of control over the whole car.My Question is: was that pretty much the cars cornering limit? or with the throttle control i can turn even sharper without skidding? Also with all my description of the moment do you think i stabilized the car or was it VSC. Any kind of advice you may feel like giving me is extremely welcome. ThanksP.S - I am aware the above mentioned moment took place on a public road but it was super late and streets were empty. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2usyNtl
