07 Santa fe - very long brake pedal travel, need ideas

1 owner car (me) , now it has 209k miles and it still runs like new (the 3.3 is a champ!)but last couple of years the brake pedal has been getting spongier, there have never been a brake leak in the car, all calipers are original as (sadly) is the fluid.it still stops fine, it's just uncomfortable to drive where your foot goes way down before you feel brakes engage.I've done pads/rotors few times in its life, they are in ok shape right now, lets call them 50% worn. ABS works fine as well as does traction control.any ideas? Please don't reply if you haven't experienced this exact issue, I get it if there are leaks or if air got in and wasn't bled out properly etc.. this is unlikely the case here. I don't believe brake fluid will break down although I suppose it could have? I'm not a chemist, I'm sure it's far from new considering the mileage, but it's also not a car driven hard on tracks.my #1 worry with bleeding of the brakes are the screws, this car is in snow belt and I can't imagine the bleeding screws will budge, but I shall try.Can a master cylinder fail in a way that causes this? and fail slowly over few years WITHOUT leaking a drop (somehow fail internally?) via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2t88xri
