Should I fix my car or replace it?

My current car is a 2007 Chevy Malibu. I bought it new in October 2007 for $14k and it is the first car I ever bought. I'm seriously considering trading it in, possibly on a 2017 Charger. One dealer was offering $4k for it on a trade in.It is fairly low mileage with only 51k due to living close to work for several years. But it has some issues and maintenance needs.Maintenance: * 4 new tires * Transmission fluid service * Front pads * Tie rods (boots are worn) * Sway bar end links (boots are...gone) * Brake fluid flush (spongy pedal) * Possibly a battery (over 6 years old now) * Coolant drain and fillOther issues: * Transmission has some occasional rough shifting, holds gear too long, and has a loud clunk when accelerating after coasting. Also one time when it was put in reverse, it acted like it was in neutral. Also the 4t45e transmission is not that great or reliable in general. * Has a vibration that feels like an unbalanced or out of round tire at driver side front corner that occurs at 25-30mph. It did not go away with a balance and tire rotation. * Occasional popping noise from rear suspension * Rough idle, replacing spark plugs and cleaning MAF helped this a small amount. * HVAC blender door. A/C was not blowing cold. Moved temp control all the way to hot and back to cold and was blowing cold again. I don't know if the door got stuck but it certainly wasn't normal. * Clock/DIC/radio. Was replaced three times under warranty and is on its way out again. CD player has been broken for years, and just the other day half the display wouldn't light up but then fixed itself. * Rear drum brakes make noise (maybe this goes under maintenance, but I've never worked on drums before) * And the latest and biggest issue, the timing chain tensioner needs replacement. A common issue on the 2.2l Ecotec, it makes a loud rattling sound 1-2 seconds after startup. Replacement involves removing timing cover to confirm the chain didn't move and valve cover removal to release the tensioner plunger after install.Other annoyances: * 2.2L 4 cylinder is incredibly weak in a car this heavy. It struggles to get up hills unless you downshift and nerarly floor it. Only good thing is the gas mileage. * Black car in Georgia summer is brutal * Safety concerns: Has no ABS, no side airbags, no traction control. * Clunking intermediate steering shaft. Was replaced once under warranty but it always comes back in GM cars. * Rear driver door lock doesn't work. Hasn't worked in years. Annoying when I have to ask a passenger to wait while I do it manually.Obviously all these issues add up to less than what a new car costs, but I don't know what else will go wrong tomorrow, so that's why I was considering trading it in while it still has some trade in value left. I'd appreciate any opinions. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2uDpXKs
