How risky are used (modern) muscle cars vs a generic used car?

My income's about to double with a new job, and I'm planning to celebrate with a V8 Challenger. There are plenty of used options between $20k-$25k, including with low mileage, while a new one is nearly $35k. Nobody has ever bought one of these cars to drive it gently, though, so I'm worried anything used will be more worn out than the numbers indicate. Is this a valid concern, and what can be done about it? Is there anything specific I should look for while choosing one, to avoid big repair bills?
