Disclosure of car accidents when trading in to dealership

Hello! So I'm overthinking this too much and being paranoid because I read some stories where incidents show up on carfax or autocheck much later in the future, but I'd like some peace of mind from you guys!I bought a car from a private party a few months ago, I'm the third owner. The CarFax and Autocheck both came out as clean, and I got the car inspected by a mechanic who did not find anything. The previous also indicated that the car had not been in any accidents, but did have the driver side door damaged while he was parked. When I got the car appraised by Carmax, they did find that paintwork had been done to the driver side fender, door and rear door but there was no frame damage.Yesterday I traded the car to a dealership. They asked me if the car had been in any accidents and I said no. They did not ask me if any paintwork had been done to the car. They also made me sign a form disclosing that the car has a clean title and has not been in "any accidents resulting in body or frame damage". I didn't probe about it because to the best of my knowledge there has been no accidents and I figured the dealership must have done their own due diligence on the car. After going home I was thinking about it a bit more, and realized that I cannot guarantee 100% the car had not been in an accident since I did buy it used and I'm not the original owner (which the dealership knows). So I'm just wondering, if say something does show up on Carfax/Autocheck in the future because it was reported late or upon further inspection they find something, would I be liable for it? I have copies of the CarFax and Autocheck from the day of the sale, and did not get into any accidents during the course of my ownership. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2vj9G0z
