Did a large hole in the road kill my power steering?

So I'm driving.... good time. On the highway; going about 60. I kind of feel shirty because of a less than productive day. And it hits me. A large section or road is missing which is about seven foot long, and approximately 6 inches deep. I think my tire just shattered, so I pull over, but no! It was just a massive ass hole.
