Are electric cars similar in design (outside of power train) to gas cars? Will they be easily serviceable with prior gas car repair experience?

I'm going electric and one of my biggest worries is that my hard earned experience with fixing my cars in the driveway will be moot. I refuse to pay mechanics and dealerships in 2017 when most jobs have instruction online, and I don't want to start with my electric car. But will it be viable to try repairing it?My worry is that the whole design might have changed enough that replacing suspension on brakes will require a whole new education that might not properly exist for free online. Also, the electrical systems seem simple on paper, but perhaps they are more complex than I expect. So let's say that I have a solid understanding of electrical circuitry, all-around experience repairing gas powered vehicles, and enough money for a few specialized tools. Can I expect to be fixing my electric car on my own?P.S. Fuck the warrantee or whatever. I'm not sure concerned with liability and accept responsibility for dismembering or killing myself. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2scztT9
