/r/cars, what's the dumbest thing you've ever done while working on your car?

I'll tell my story first, because it's probably the most ashamed I've ever been in my entire life.I had to change the oil in my Cherokee yesterday. I bought my 6 qts of penzoil, an oil filter, and happily headed out to my grandfather's to do the job. It's an oil change, so it took all of five seconds to have the bolt out and the oil draining, and it took all of five minutes to have the filter off, the oil drained, and the new oil in. I happily started my jeep with freshly changed oil, pulled out of my grandfather's driveway, and spent the next 10 miles of my drive shitting my pants as my jeep shuddered between transmission slippage and nearly overheating. I got home to a radiator still spewing coolant and a generally screaming Jeep Cherokee.I didn't drain the oil. For some reason I decided to drain the transmission fluid. Luckily I poured an extra 6 qts of oil in my engine, which didn't help at all when it started running too hot and I had to limp it home./r/cars, what's your "what in the hell was I even thinking" story? via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2usZMVI
