New to driving manual, stupid question about reversing (and how I think I messed up)

So yesterday I got my first ever car with a manual transmission. I've drove manuals before, mostly my friends STI... which is interesting to drive. I also had a motorcycle for quite sometime (until a careless drive murdered it...) so I have a general idea of what I'm doing. It's just odd using my foot to operate the clutch.Anyways I got a 2008 Mazda 3 S, so far it's been a blast and I'm starting to get decent. Besides a few stalls every now and then on slight inclines I've been alright. Though I was on a steep hill and dropped the clutch while giving it way to much gas, which lead to a loud noise and the wheels spinning a bit.But anyways today when I was backing out of a small parking lot and reversed it made a really weird noise... which I can't describe. I was on an incline, so I sorta rolled out a bit. But I think I was in 4th gear maybe... though shouldn't the car have stalled? I just barely let the clutch out though. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2rZ9UEQ
