Infiniti i35 immobilizer "dead" according to Dealer

Hello! I have a 2002 Infiniti i35. It recently would not start and all signs pointed to a dead battery. After unsuccessful jumps, I had it towed to a local small repair shop. They said that the car was in "stolen mode" but they were not sure if that was the only problem. They couldn't fix it so they had it towed to my local Nissan dealer. The dealer said that it needed a new immobilizer. Parts + labor were going to be $500-600. With this immobilizer problem, I cannot get into my trunk to clean out the vehicle. I am going to buy a new car and sell this one, but my question is, do I have to replace the immobilizer in order to get into the trunk and gather my things? I would hate to pay $500 just to open trunk and then sell it to a part-scrapper. Any help is so appreciated. Thanks! via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2thlEXg
