Can Summer Tires Really Be Used In An Erratic Climate?

Hello,I just purchased a vehicle with worn all-season tires on it, and am in the market for two new sets of tires. I'm definitely going to be purchasing winter tires, but I'm not sure whether to go with all-seasons or summer tires for the warmer months.I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada which has quite an erratic climate. If you look at the climate data, May is when the temperatures become much to warm for winter tires to be used, (average temp of 9.7C) but May still has on average 2 snowy days per year. This makes me think that summer tires aren't an option, and I need to have all-seasons as my warm weather tires. The tires I'm currently looking at are the Michelin X-Ice Xi3's and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, but I'm tempted by the allure of a performance summer tire. Everywhere I read, car enthusiasts say that all-season tires are far inferior to their summer equivalents. Is there a way to make summer tires work without buying 3 sets of tires, or should I just go with the conservative option of all-seasons for the summer? via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2s3GkhH
