As a brand how does Kia compare to other reputable brands?

I always see Kias and I find them to be good looking cars, and they seem to have plenty of space. The reason I ask however is I've heard from a few people comments such as, "don't buy a Kia because you will need a new car in five years." Basically suggesting Kias are unreliable.
