What's with the "if the tires are 10 years old, they're junk" propaganda coming from tire shops?

Daughter took her car in to get some tires rotated and the tire shop looked at the date code and said that because they were 10 years old that they wouldn't touch them. (She inherited her grandma's car with 15k miles on it) Of course they offered her new ones instead. This is not the first time I've heard of shops refusing to deal with tires over 10 years old. Ridiculous!!There's 10 years of being out in the hot sun, patched, worn and dangerous and then there's 10 years inside a cool garage, barely used, 80% tread and ready to roll across the country. Two entirely different things. As if date alone is the deciding factor.Sounds like a sales pitch to me. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2sgwKYY
