Sharing my 1974 Porsche 914

I've had this car for about eight years but figured it was worth sharing here.http://ift.tt/2sxTgfG I was a kid (in the 1980's), I always thought 914s were cool. I grew up near one of the primary 914 shops in the eastern USA, and regularly saw 914s on the road and parked outside the shop. I always thought they were quirky and cool. Decided -- because I'm insane -- that shortly after the birth of my 2nd child, it was time to indulge and get one. These cars had an early EFI system that confused many owners and thus many were converted to carburetors over the years. When I bought this one, it had the maligned Weber Progressive single carb. I've since had the engine rebuilt with slightly bigger Pistons & Cylinders (displacement up to 2056cc from the original 1970cc), as well as dual 40mm carbs. The Monza/Manta exhaust was on it when I bought it; someday I'll convert back to a more stock-looking exhaust. There's been a poor quality respray in the original L13M Saturn/Chrome Yellow at some point, but most other things are pretty much original, including the ride height and tire size (165/15).This thing puts a huge grin on my face every time I drive it. It's not the most powerful sports car out there, but the thing I love about it is that it represents the absolute essence of a sports car. Think about it: If you took every great sports car of the last 50 years, blended them together, and boiled down the resulting stew until you were left with only the essentials, it would be:Mid-enginedManualLightweight (about 2,000lb)And that's it. No power steering or power brakes (nor power windows/locks). It's remarkably well-equipped for an inexpensive 70's car, with 5-speed and four-wheel disk brakes. Long-throw dogleg shifter takes some getting used to, but can be driven quite smoothly. I wasn't set on a color, but I think the Yellow screams 1970's and fits the car well.I think I caught the market at a good time; these have been appreciating in value. I can fully understand why.TL;DR Porsche 914s are cool. Here's mine. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2tQy0pB
