Fake Exhaust Pipes - Why?

I noticed this alot while driving and I came across a video on YouTube that shows on some of the more higher ticket cars such as the R8 and RS6's - they feature Fake Exhaust PipesIs there really a legitimate reason why automakers do this besides saving money? I mean putting a premium interior, body styles that are aerodynamically impressive, and powerful engines in the front (and back if youre a Porsche driver), is expensive, but is it really that much more (or not worth it at all) to at least put honest exhaust pipes? via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2ujoPeu
