For some reason I offended a lot of people in another thread when I mentioned how much these cars suck. It's amusing because I've worked on many of them and here's just a few fun experiences:Spark plugs are a night mare.Intake manifolds leak often and people end up blowing head gaskets.I've had friends with all sorts of fun random transmission problems in these.Valve cover gaskets are nearly impossible to change. 0 Clearance and the valve covers themselves are pretty fragile and crack easy.Suspension squeaks way more than most cars I've seen with the same age/mileage. I've seen other mechanics go nuts trying to pinpoint the source. About 1 out of every 5 Crown Victorias I see on the road has hilarious squeaking going on every time they are going over bumps or turning.Airbags that are so problematic people actually buy kits to convert them back to regular springs. Can't count how many sagging Crown Victorias I've seen on the road. They handle like shit. To be expected though I guess.Their mufflers are BARELY adequate for doing their job. After doing a couple cat bypasses on these cars, they sound like a super loud tin can with a horrible resonance/raspy noise. I've never had this happen to any other cars I did a cat bypass on because usually most cars have a decent factory muffler. What's the difference between them and CVs? CVs and Ford Focuses have a unique super cheap stamped muffler design that's almost like a pillow rather than a cylinder. I've never actually seen a manufacturer get that bad on shortcuts as far as mufflers go. BMW and some of the newer European cars have weird shaped mufflers, but they are actually built properly inside and function like they should. Also let's not forget who drives Crown Victories. Senile old people, white trash, drug dealers, ghetto black people, and some cops who still haven't received newer vehicles. Seeing a normal person behind the wheel of one is almost as rare as seeing a grandma in an Evo. The only ones which don't have a combination of ghetto wheels, dented body panels, faded paint, ghetto paint jobs, and broken tail lights, are usually driven by geriatrics that are oblivious to all traffic around them. And even then they're usually sagging on blown air bags half the time.Every time I've seen someone buy one and try to make it into a "cool" project car it's like watching the special olympics.Another point. There's a ton of them in junkyards. Some might argue it's because they're so popular. But they're very popular because they're so cheap. They're a cheap trashy car. As for their high taxi company usage, taxi companies aren't known for standards. They'll buy anything with a roof and 4 wheels then junk it the minute the repair bill gets too high. That's why there's times the local LKQ looks like an airport terminal.Out of the 3 domestic manufacturers I dislike Ford the least so I'm not trying to be one of those Ford vs Chevy vs Chrysler fanboys. But all Crown Victorias are better off getting melted down in China and coming back as brake rotors for all I care. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2u5ZszO
