Should I build a project car?

I'm 18, I have a very reliable daily driver that I'm paying off (with very low payments). And I have a steady job that I just recently started. I'm an apprentice right now, and the apprenticeship lasts 3 years. After the 3 years I'll be making a lot more than I do now. But even with the amount I make now. I have on average 700$ extra each month. I plan on saving up a couple thousand and keeping it as an emergency fund/move out fund for when I move into my own place after I finish my apprenticeship.But.. I'm bored. I don't really got much to do since my city kinda sucks. So I'm wondering if I should build a cheap project car? Start by just buying an engine. And pretty much taking it apart, cleaning it up, maybe add some performance parts, possibly bore it out. And put it back together slowly over the course of a few months. Then save up and buy a cheap 1,200$ older camaro (or something like that), to put my engine into. And then slowly get that set up right, upgrade suspension, brakes. Drivetrain. Then move on to doing my own paint job and such.Does this sound like a good idea for me? Just to give me something to do? Or is it stupid?Another option is my girlfriends father has an old truck that has problems. And it just sits in his yard. I'm sure if I told him im interested he would let me come over and work on it and fix it up. via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2teT892
