Drove an electric car for the first time (BMW hybrids + i8)

Last weekend I was invited to BMW's iPerformance Tour Now, which is an event designed to promote BMW's range of electric and hybrid models.I'm usually a diehard fan of gasoline power, not really too fond of diesel or natural gas powered vehicles. One of my pet peeves are Prius and similar "retarded-shaped" cars, that want to look futuristic but really aren't especially when you see just how badly the first one has aged. But then something clicked when I drove the 530e and 740e. The sheer torque combined with a turbocharged petrol engine was more then enough to make me feel different about them. I've driven a number of cars, but none that could match the electric power in low revs.To top it off, I got to drive a BMW i8 for an hour, and even though it has way less power than an M3, M4 or M5 it was a spectacular experience - plus the thing just out accelerates them! It does lose the extra oomph after it gets over 100 mph but how many times do you really need to go that fast? I am a bit weary about the V8 sound being projected in to the car but over all it is a fun car. After this, I do believe I just might get myself a hybrid for my next daily-driver, something like the BMW 540e, and keep the V8's and other gas guzzlers for the weekend. What's your thought on this? via /r/cars http://ift.tt/2tpObHr
