Camry 96

I have a Camry 96. When the driver's side door is closed, I push the lock button, and all the locks locked, but when I push the unlock button, nothing seems to work. In order to open the driver's door, I have to turn the ignition off or I have to manually open the latch from the inside in order to open the door. Please advise! Any tips would be appreciated.
